Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has raised concerns about the Supreme Court’s recent directions on stray dog removal emphasizing that any action taken must honour India’s deep-rooted traditions of compassion and spiritual respect for all creatures that share our world.
Jakhar shared in a social media post that the Indian tradition of offering the first roti to a cow and the last to a dog symbolizes the nation’s deep-rooted values of coexistence. He emphasized that this practice embodies a belief system that honors the dignity and right to life of all living beings, irrespective of their standing.
In response to the Supreme Court’s November 7, 2025, order, which mandated the relocation of stray dogs from public places such as railway stations, schools, hospitals, and bus stops to designated shelters following sterilisation and vaccination, Jakhar emphasized the need to avoid measures that might lead to cruelty.
He warned that catching animals randomly might end with them being killed painfully, which goes against what India stands for. Jakhar said he hopes the next court meeting will find ways to keep people safe while still respecting India’s special moral values.
