The minister said that discussions are continuously underway with the central government regarding people stranded in the UAE. He informed that Air India is also preparing to evacuate passengers. However, Air India will also get airspace clearance only from Muscat.
Due to the war in West Asia, the Punjab government has issued helpline numbers for Punjabis stranded in the UAE. NRI Affairs Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh stated that people can call 0172-2260042-43 or WhatsApp at 9478779112. A special toll-free number, 1100, has also been issued for the families of passengers.
While speaking to journalists at Punjab Bhawan, the minister said that they currently do not have exact information about how many tourists are stranded in the UAE. However, most of the calls received so far are from people who had gone there for travel purposes.
The minister further said that due to the war, airspace has been closed, but they have received information that airspace from Oman is open. He has also spoken with a representative of Oman Airlines. According to them, 10 to 12 flights are operating daily.
The minister added that those who hold visas for the United States, England, or Canada can reach Muscat and travel to India from there. Those without visas can apply, and the visa will be granted within two days.
He reiterated that the state government is in constant contact with the central government regarding the evacuation of stranded individuals. Air India is preparing to bring passengers back, but it will also operate via Muscat due to airspace restrictions.
