The District Expenditure Monitoring Committee (DEMC) would submit its final report to the Election Commission of India (ECI), about the expenditure made by the various candidates during recently concluded Lok Sabha polls, in the coming days.

A decision to this effect was taken in a high level meeting of the committee held at the District Administrative Complex in which Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Expenditure Observers Preeti Chaudhary and Amit Shukla along with Chief Executive Officer of the Smart City Jitendra Jorwal were present.

In the meeting the facts submitted by the various contesting candidates about the expenditure meted out by them during the polls was minutely observed. The candidates had recently submitted he facts for the reconciliation of the expenses made by them to the observers in meeting held June 18 during the Accounts Reconciliation Meeting (ARM). These facts submitted by the candidate would be now cross-examined by the committee with the shadow registers being maintained by the observers.

After a detailed perusal the final report regarding expenses would be then submitted to the Election Commission of India. This was an important post-election exercise that has to be conducted within 30 days of the completion of the Election process. The aim of this entire exercise was to ensure that candidates adhere to the guidelines given by the Election Commission of India for poll expenses.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner said that a foolproof mechanism was to evolved to ensure that candidates adhere to the limit of spending maximum amount of Rs 70 lakh during the Lok Sabha polls. He said that strict vigil was kept on the entire expenditure being made by the candidates during the polls. Mr. Sharma said that teams led by Assistant Expenditure Observers monitored the expenditure made by candidates from the date of filing of nominations to the day of counting, including winning procession by the successful candidate.
