Rs 1.61 crore to be spent to clean the rain drainage system : DC Thori

The Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ghanshyam Thori has directed the officials of the drainage department to complete the work of cleaning all the seasonal drains and road gullies under the Sangrur district so that any damage due to floods during the rainy season can be avoided.

While reviewing the arrangements in the District Administrative Complex, the Deputy Commissioner Thori said that under the district Sangrur to clean sarkanda, weed, filth from Lehragaga Link Drain, Lehragaga Main Drain, Baliya Drain, Ladal Link Drain, Bareta Drain, Sirhind Chow, Bhagwanpura Link Drain, Dhuri Drain, Bhagwanpura Outfall Drain and Bahadur Singh Wala Drain, the total cost would be Rs. 1.61 crore.

He said that after the completion of the tender process for the cleaning of these drains, cleanliness works have been started in the villages of Lehragaga Link Drain, Lehragaga Main Drain, Bareta Drain, Dhuri Drain and Bahadar Singh Wala, at a cost of Rs 1.16 crores.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned authorities to complete the work of cleaning the rest of the drains and gullies in the timely manner. He said that any kind of negligence at the departmental level would not be tolerated.

Thori directed that the flood control room in Khanauri, which is open 24 hours, will be kept in close coordination with the State Flood Control Room and the District Administration.

He said that District Level Control Room would be set up at District Administrative Complex at Sangrur and one subdivision room would be operational in each sub division.

Deputy Commissioner also directed the all district SDMs to keep reviewing the ongoing works of the rivers, rain water drains in their respective areas.

During the review meeting, he said that hospitals should maintain medical facilities and sufficient stock of medicines.

Thori also said that all the bridges in the district should be constantly checked and it should be ensured that there is no flood situation due to increased water level anywhere.

Apart from this, he directed the officers of the forest department and municipal councils to remove the trees immediately if any falls.

The Deputy Commissioner ordered to keep all the necessary machinery during monsoons including boats, cranes, tankers and director concerned to immediately remove the stagnant water beneath the underpasses with the help of pumps.

He directed that the boats and experienced swimmers lists should be made in advance to meet any kind of urgency.
