Move aimed at commemorating 550th Parkash Purab

As a humble and befitting tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji on his 550th parkash Purab, the Forest Department was setting up ten Nanak Bagichis in the Jalandhar Division comprising the districts of Jalandhar and Kapurthala.

Divulging the details, the Divisional Forest Office Rajesh Kumar Gulati said that the department has planned to set up six such bagichis in the Kapurthala district and four at Jalandhar.

He said that such bagichis have been set up at Fattudhinga, Rakh Shikargah Kapurthala, adjoining SDM residence Sultanpur and Lovely Professionl University. Gulati said that apart from it two more bagichis would be set up at Mithda College and District Administrative Complex (DAC) complex, Kapurthala very soon.

Likewise, the Divisional Forest Officer said that in Jalandhar also four such bagichis would also come up at places which were being identified by the department. Gulati said that these bagichis were being set up to commemorate the 550th parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji. He said that these state of art Bagichis would enhance the green cover in the region besides checking the environmental pollution in it.

The Divisional Forest Officer said that besides others these bagichis would have native species of trees like Harad, Baheda, Jamoa, Jamun, Arjun, Amrood, Aam, Amla, Kikkar, Rajain, Jand, Neem and others, which were very beneficial for the human health.

He said that these bagichis would be set up with Japanese technique under layered plantation would be done which ensures 30 times denser growth of plants and hence better carbon-dioxide absorption. Gulati said that Nanak Bagichis spread across the vast expanse of land would be infact a milestone in reducing green house gases and mitigating negative effect of climate change in the district.

The Divisional Forest Officer envisioned that besides checking environmental pollution these bagichis would also help in improving ground water recharge thereby improving the overall soil health of the region.

Gulati said that these Bagichis would be real tribute to Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji who laid the foundation of protecting air, water, biodiversity and forests through his teachings. He said that this campaign would be pivotal in enhancing the shrinking green cover in the district.
