SEIZE ONE QUINTAL POPPY HUSK AND 2.550 KG OPIUM

Jalandhar, May 22- Continuing its drive against drug smugglers, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered one quintal poppy husk and 2.550 kg opium from their possession.

The accused persons have been identified as Kamaldeep Singh (40) of Haripur village in Hoshiarpur and Rohit Kumar (32) of Rasoia village in Jharkhand. Kamaldeep has already been facing a drug case registered against him on July 1, 2017 when 52kg poppy husk was seized from him. He was released on bail later.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal said that Sub-Inspector Raghubir Singh from Maqsudan Police Station was leading a police checking at Bidhipur railway crossing and received a tip-off that both above mentioned persons were waiting of a customer near bushes at Amanatpur bus stop on a scooter (PB07-AZ-6761).  Mahal said that following the information, the police party raided on the spot and found both were sitting on the sacks and apprehended.

He further told that DSP Kartarpur Ranjit Singh also reached on the spot and two sacks they were carrying, checked and contraband was seized.

Mahal said that a case has been registered against them in Maqsudan Police Station and both would be taken on the police remand for the interrogation regarding their link-ups.

SSP also informed that since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct on March 10, the rural police have arrested 183 male and 20 female drug peddlers besides recovered 19-kg opium, 256-kg poppy husk, 11-kg heroin, 567-gm powder, 1098 injections, 24880 tablets, 19181 capsules, 1-kg Ganja, 40-gm smack and 23-kg Charas.
