Move aimed at implementing Safe School Vahan Policy: RTA

RTA and Police deptt. Challan 25 School Buses

Cracking down heavily on the school vehicles violating traffic norms, a joint team of Transport and Police departments, challaned 25 school buses in the city on Tuesday, to ensure that Safe School Vahan Policy was implemented in right earnest.

The team led by Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Dr. Nayan Jassal and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vaibhav Sehgal conducted the checking of vehicles at the local Guru Nanak Mission chowk. The checking was specially organized to check the violations made by the school vehicles and to implement the Safe School Vahan Policy. During the checking the team inspected a number of vehicles and challaned 25 school buses found flouting the norms.

Divulging the details Secretary RTA and ACP Traffic said that the motive of the checking was to ensure that the Safe school Vahan Policy was implemented in right earnest. They said that the violation of this policy means posing a huge risk to the life and safety of the school children, which could not be allowed at any cost.Dr. Jassal and Sehgal said that during the checking these 25 buses were found without fire extinguisher, valid pollution certificate, CCTV cameras, attendants, fitness certificate, uniform adding that even some buses were found overloaded with the students. They said that this checking would be further intensified in the coming days to ensure that no violation of law takes place.

On the occasion Legal Probation Officer Sandeep Kumar and others were also present.
