Reviews the arrangements, facilities being provided to patients

In the ongoing DAPO campaign of Punjab Government to make Punjab a drug free state, Deputy Commissioner Sangrur Ghanshyam Thori and SSP Dr Sandeep Garg today conducted a surprise visit to the Akal Drug De-Addiction centre where they reviewed the facilities being provided by the centre to the patients.
DC and SSP acquired detailed information from the patients undergoing treatment at drug de-addiction centre and sought their feedback and assured that their issues would be sorted out.
Thori said that positive results of the drug de-addiction campaigns being run by the Punjab government are witnessed and youth in large number has left drugs adding that even the patients getting treatment in drug de-addiction centers, rehabilitation centers and OAAT centers are being provided advanced treatment so that they could shun drugs and could become part of the mainstream society.
DC instructed the authorities that the people trapped in the vicious circle of drug addiction should be treated with sympathy.
“Intoxication makes the body physically and mentally hollow and one should avoid it and become an inspiration for others so that in future, no one should move on the path of drugs,” DC Thori told patients during one to one interaction with them.
He said that all the Sub-Divisional Magistrates and DSPs have also been directed to go to the villages and cities to make people aware of the adverse effects of drug addiction.
On this occasion, Director of the de-addiction centre Dr Rajinder Singh said that this centre has been helping the drug addicts to shun drugs since 2004 and they would continue in future also so that people trapped in the vicious circle of drugs could be saved.
DC was also apprised of the problems being faced by the patients at the Centre and urged him to suggest the government to give at least 15 days of medication to patients under treatment of drug addiction for saving their time and money.
The Deputy Commissioner assured that he would ensure a proper solution to the problems being faced by the patients
