Ludhiana, July 10, 2019: Principal Secretary Jails Kripa Shankar Saroj today underscored the need for imparting skill training to the jail inmates for reforming them and to make them a fine human being.

The Principal Secretary, who held a meeting with the Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Pradeep Aggarwal and other officers regarding the infrastructural up gradation being required in Central Jail Ludhiana and other jails of the district, directed the Principal of Government Polytechnic Rishi Nagar to explore possibility for imparting skill training to the jail inmates.

He said that necessary survey should be conducted within a week so that curriculum of training could be set according to the interests of the jail inmates. Saroj also asked the officers to implement Skill India program in Jail also.

Likewise, the Principal Secretary also directed the Social Welfare department to identify such NGOs which were interested in reforming the jail inmates by initiating a comprehensive plan. He said that the state government would provide necessary logistic support required for this purpose.

Saroj also asked the Education department to identify the Teachers and Motivators who were ready to work as volunteers for imparting education to the jail inmates on various subjects.

The Principal Secretary also directed the Sewerage department and Municipal Corporation Ludhiana to resolve the sewerage problem of Ludhiana jails. He asked the Public Works Department to prepare the estimate of repairs inside the Jails.

Saroj also directed the Horticulture department to provide subsidized seeds of the fruits and vegetables in the jail so that inmates could be encouraged for cultivation of vegetables and fruits.

In the same manner, the Principal Secretary also asked the Health department to ensure adequate health facilities inside the jails.

He said that the basic purpose of putting the criminals inside the jails was to reform them adding that concerted efforts should be made towards this directions.
