One Heavy Vehicle Challaned for Noise Pollution in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, May 27- A joint team of Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and traffic Police challaned one heavy vehicle for using multi-tone horns/pressure horns and cracker sound emitting silencer.

The team comprising Junior Environmental Engineer (JEE) Varun Kumar along with the team of traffic Police led by Assistant Sub Inspector  (ASI) Harpreet Singh checked around 25 heavy motor vehicles and five Royal Enfield Motorcycles at Rama Mandi Chowk.

On the occasion, one heavy vehicle was issued challans for the violation of the noise pollution rules and rest were found normal. The violator would also be issued show cause notices under section 31-A of Air Act, 1981 to the violators.

The vehicle owners were also made aware of the harmful effects of the noise created by these items. The team also appealed them to stop using pressure horns in their vehicles as it causes a lot of noise pollution.

Jalandhar, May 27- Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Jasbir Singh on Monday handed over demand draft worth Rs 20,000 and a citation certificate to a bright student of the district under Dr Ambedkar National Merit Award Scheme for Meritorious Students of Senior Secondary School Examination belonging to Schedule Caste (SC) community.

The meritorious girl Ms Ranjana has bagged this award due to her marvellous performance in the 12th standard exams conducted by state/ Central Boards/ Councils. Ranjana was selected by Dr Ambedkar Foundation, an autonomous organization under Ministry of Social Justice and Employment that implements several welfare schemes/ programs relating to the welfare of SCs/ STs.

This award has been given in recognition to the academic excellence and meritorious performance of the student in the 12th examination held in the year 2017.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Jasbir Singh appreciated her for this achievement and said that this award was the recognition of hard work and dedication of the student, who had worked hard to excel in the field of academics.

He asked her to continue this hard work and strive hard for excellence in future.

Complementing the student and her parents for dreaming big, he said that the district administration was ever ready to help such meritorious and needy student.

Wishing the student a successful career ahead, ADC (G) expressed hope that every dream of the young girl would become a reality soon.

Ms Ranjana, is daughter a labourer, was a student of Meritorious School Jalandhar and was now pursuing BSC in Sant Baba Bhag Singh University.

Director level woman officer likely to be DC

Chandigarh, 26 May 2019: Gossip and whispers are in circulation in the corridors of the secretariat of Punjab anticipating reshuffle of few IAS officers including DCs of some districts.

According to reports, Praneet Bhardwaj who was shifted from Bathinda to Health department as Special Secretary on technical grounds after the SAD delegation met CEO Punjab during the model code of conduct and demanded his transfer is likely to be again transferred as DC of Bathinda.

It is said one Cabinet Minister of Punjab is interested to bring him back in the district as he has done good work for the completion of the much delayed ring road project and other projects. He has also accelerated the development work on projects of Mehraj village, which is ancestral village of Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.  Rs 28 crore was announced by CM for upgrade of basic infrastructure and civic amenities in this area in last week of January.

It is also said that name of one woman IAS officer, who is serving as Director in Punjab government is being considered for appointment as DC of one of the important districts. Besides, few other transfers are also expected in the coming days.

Chandigarh, May 25, 2019: Aiming at control of crimes and elimination of drug menace, Punjab Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta today set the priorities for the Punjab police and stressed upon to put effective control on terrorist crimes, gangster activities, drive against drugs and heinous crimes in the states. In addition to this, he also directed the field officers to prevent and control the crimes against women and redress the public grievances on priority.

Divulging  details about  his ‘Mission CCTV cameras’ to check criminal activities in the state, DGP asked all the range officers and SSPs to put all out efforts for installations of such cameras at each entry and exit points into all cities/towns besides covering all vulnerable locations.

For quick disposal of old vehicles belonging to case properties, Dinkar Gupta asked the concerned senior officers to develop data based applications for priority areas to streamline disposal of old vehicles at range level and police districts offices at the earliest. In addition to this, DGP Gupta directed the concerned officers to update all data pertaining to arms licenses, arms dealers, manpower, vehicles and driving licenses on such online software applications by coordinating with district police chiefs.

Presiding over a state level meeting of all CPs and SSPs, he also suggested simplifying Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) forms, computerization of police station records and timely updating of all types of crime data on the platform. He also asked all the CPs and SSPs to hold weekly crime meetings on every Wednesday to take stock of progress reports of their subordinate officers.

Presenting his progress ADGP IT&T, Kuldeep Singh informed in the meeting that Punjab is a leading state in the country for fully utilizing, updation and data base records on CCTNS. He advised the district heads for timely synchronizing the daily data and records on the system at police station level.

Elaborating his action points for SSPs during the meeting, DGP advised them to deploy lady inspectors to investigate all sexual assault cases and listing of top 100 criminals at each police station.

He also advised to appoint liaison officers for all schools/colleges besides mapping of policemen to villages. Besides this, Dinkar Gupta also directed the field officers to constitute various crime specific teams, social media teams, investigation and technical teams at district level to trace the crimes

Foundation stone of judicial complex laid in Giddarbaha

The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of Judicial Court Complex at Giddarbaha was held on Saturday.

The foundation stone of the building was laid down by Justice Rajan Gupta, Chairman of building committee of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sudhir Mittal, Administrative Judge Sessions Division Sri Muktsar Sahib and Justice Harnaresh Singh Gill. Sukhwinder Kaur, District and Sessions Judge, M.K. Aravind Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Sri Muktsar Sahib, SSP Manjit Singh Dhesi and Hardeep Singh Bhangal President of Bar Association were also present.

On this occasion, Justice Rajan Gupta said that this Judicial Court Complex will be equipped with all the modern facilities. Apart from the courts, residential blocks will also be constructed for judges.

This court complex will be ready in a year. Its construction will cost Rs.1165.99 lakhs. The total covered area of ground floor will be 25116 and the total covered area of the first floor will be 22075 square feet.

Justice Gupta added that this project would serve as the kick start in the development of the area. Justice Gupta highlighted his worries against the drug and female foeticide issues. He said that there will be a seminar in the district on this topic soon.

Sudhir Mittal, Administrative Judge Sessions Division Sri Muktsar Sahib said that with this complex, the area will be benefitted with one of the older needs.

This would help the people of the society. Looking at the historical perspectives of the judicial system, he said that smooth and committed judicial system is very important for social peace.

Earlier, District and Session Judge Sukhwinder Kaur welcomed everyone and Bar Association president Hardeep Singh Bhangal thanked all, in the end of the ceremony.

Congress candidate Santokh Singh Chaudhary today registered an impressive win in elections for Jalandhar Parliamentary Constituency by defeating his nearest rival Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal of Shiromani Akali Dal by a margin of 19,491 votes.

District administration of Hoshiarpur has finalized the arrangements for the counting of the votes; the stage was all set for the completion of the counting of votes for the Hoshiarpur Parliamentary Seat.This was stated by Isha Kalia, District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner, Hoshiarpur on Wednesday while inspecting the arrangements for the counting of votes.

Isha Kalia said that adequate arrangements for security and counting of the votes have been done by the civil and Police administration.

Rural Police Arrest Two Drug Peddlers: SSP Navjot Mahal

SEIZE ONE QUINTAL POPPY HUSK AND 2.550 KG OPIUM

Jalandhar, May 22- Continuing its drive against drug smugglers, the Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered one quintal poppy husk and 2.550 kg opium from their possession.

The accused persons have been identified as Kamaldeep Singh (40) of Haripur village in Hoshiarpur and Rohit Kumar (32) of Rasoia village in Jharkhand. Kamaldeep has already been facing a drug case registered against him on July 1, 2017 when 52kg poppy husk was seized from him. He was released on bail later.

Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal said that Sub-Inspector Raghubir Singh from Maqsudan Police Station was leading a police checking at Bidhipur railway crossing and received a tip-off that both above mentioned persons were waiting of a customer near bushes at Amanatpur bus stop on a scooter (PB07-AZ-6761).  Mahal said that following the information, the police party raided on the spot and found both were sitting on the sacks and apprehended.

He further told that DSP Kartarpur Ranjit Singh also reached on the spot and two sacks they were carrying, checked and contraband was seized.

Mahal said that a case has been registered against them in Maqsudan Police Station and both would be taken on the police remand for the interrogation regarding their link-ups.

SSP also informed that since the imposition of Model Code of Conduct on March 10, the rural police have arrested 183 male and 20 female drug peddlers besides recovered 19-kg opium, 256-kg poppy husk, 11-kg heroin, 567-gm powder, 1098 injections, 24880 tablets, 19181 capsules, 1-kg Ganja, 40-gm smack and 23-kg Charas.
