A village sets example of brotherhood and harmony

Bathinda, 22 May 2019: Setting an example of brotherhood and harmony Sarawan Bodla a village in Lambi constituency always set up a combined polling booth during the elections. Leaders of the both old traditional parties SAD and Congress always establish a common booth outside the polling stations of the village, where all villagers do come and get the voter slips one by one and cast their votes.

Sarawan Bodla village is a part of the Lambi constituency represented by Former CM Parkash Singh Badal and it is one of the big villages with 5000 (five thousand) votes.

Sarawan Bodla is located in Malout Tehsil of Muktsar district, Punjab with total 949 families residing. The Sarawan Bodla village has population of 5597 of which 2954 are males while 2643 are females as per Population Census 2011.

“This may appear strange in a polarised society these days, but we take pride in our shared brotherhood,” a local resident, told representative of sarkar darbar.

The narrative of polarisation and division on the name of political parties has not taken away our belief that we are part of the same village and same family. It has never destroyed our cohesion over the long period, though we fight panchayat and local bodies’ elections on different party’s symbol” said Gurjeet Singh Sarpanch.

“I am feeling fortunate to be born in a village, where my elders have taken a wise decision given the existing situation in different parts of the state. I hope the society as a whole will take a lesson from the wise steps taken by our elders and isolate the elements bent upon to disturb the mutual trust and faith to save the state,” said Harjeet Singh Sandhu a PCS officer who belongs to this village.

This village has produced many civil and police officers, who have served on different posts in the state and country. Prominent among them are Dalip Singh Sandhu IAS, his two sons Mandeep Singh Sandhu IAS & Inderjit Sandhu. Harjeet Singh Sandhu PCS, Harpreet Singh Sandhu PPS and Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu IAS.
