ADC Kulwant exhorts students to act as ‘custodians of environment’

Underscoring the need for a clean, green and pollution free environment, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Kulwant Singh today exhorted the students to act as ‘custodians of environment’ for making Punjab a clean, green and pollution Free State.

Addressing the gathering after planting saplings during a district level function organized under the aegis of Tandarust Punjab Mission to mark World Environment Day here at the local Government Senior Secondary School Nehru Garden, the Additional Deputy Commissioner categorically said that it was the bounden duty of everyone in general and students in particular to make strenuous efforts for protecting the environment. Expressing concern over day-by-day increasing environmental pollution, Kulwant Singh said that all out efforts must be made to check the menace of pollution to save the mother earth. He asked the students to make a firm pledge for making concerted efforts to ensure that environmental pollution was checked at all costs.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner further said that along with checking environmental pollution, efforts need for be starting well planned plantation drives to check environmental degradation. He said that trees play a crucial role by conserving natural resources and improving the environment.

Kulwant Singh said that on this World Environment Day all of us should ponder that what our nature has given us since time immemorial adding that stupendous efforts need to be made by us protecting these valuable things.

Apprising the students about ‘Tandarust Punjab’, the Additional Deputy Commissioner said that it was a comprehensive mission, which was brainchild of Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, to preserve and improve the quality of air, water and food in the state, thereby ensuring a good living environment for the citizens of Punjab. He said that the Mission has been conceived and planned meticulously for creating a healthy Punjab.

Kulwant Singh said that the primary aim of the Mission was to provide clean drinking water, improve air quality, and ensure production and consumption of unadulterated food products and to improve the physical and mental health of the people of Punjab.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that the mission envisages to build a healthy Punjab for achieving human excellence in a sustainable manner adding that a multi-pronged strategy has already been chalked out to achieve this goal.

He said that the Mission has focused on building awareness among the principal stakeholders, especially the residents of Punjab through comprehensive planning and activities.

Kulwant Singh called upon the students to come forward and play a leading role in make Punjab a clean, green, pollution free, healthy and progressive state.

On the occasion, the District Education Officer Harinder Pal Singh, Principal of School Gurinderjit Kaur and District Science Supervisor Tejinder Singh welcomed the Additional Deputy Commissioner to school premises.

Earlier, the Additional Deputy Commissioner planted a sapling in school. Likewise, he also distributed saplings to the students.
