Hoshiarpur declares its District Administrative Complex as “Polythene Carry Bag Free”.

District Administration Hoshiarpur on 2nd October declares its District Administrative Complex comprising of 27 departments and 625 employees as “Polythene Carry Bag Free”.

This was announced by Isha Kalia Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur, while addressing a gathering at DAC.

She said “The aim is to lead by example and give further boost to the campaign to make city Polythene Carry Bag Free”.

The process involved continuous effort of about a month during which the departments were sensitized through regular meetings and floor supervisors were deputed to inspect each office thereafter, she further added.

A state-level ceremony was held at the District Administrative Complex on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Later a peace march was organised at 8 am, which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia. She also led the march.

The peace march began at the District Administrative Complex, returning from the Mahilpur Adda, Shimla Pahadi and Service Club, returned to the DA Complex. During this time, the polythene in the march route was also picked up, to give the message of non-use of polythene.

SSP Gaurav Garg, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G)Harpreet Singh Sudan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Harbir Singh, SDM,  Amit Sreen, District Heads of Departments and about 400 students and players from different schools participated.

Floral tributes were offered to Mahatma Gandhi ji before flagging off the Peace March by Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia. . Later, addressing the gathering, DC said, “District Administration hereby declares its District Administrative Complex comprising of 27 departments and 625 employees as “Polythene Carry Bag Free”.

All departments have now been able to certify that Polythene is not used within their offices.

The canteens/ other vends were also checked continuously for non- usage of Polythene Carry bags. Sale counter for jute and cloth bags made by SHGs was set up for staff and visitors during last 15 days.

Now for visitors, bags have been made available through Municipal Corporation so that they can be provided with an alternative, free of cost for next 10 days.
