Deepti Uppal joins as 49th Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala

Kapurthala, 26 December 2019: An IAS officer of 2011 batch, Deepti Uppal has assumed charge of Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala on Thursday. Earlier, she was serving as Additional Secretary Personnel and Managing Director, Punjab State Industrial Development Corporation. She had served as ADC (G) at Kapurthala in 2016 and earned good name by her caring and generous approach towards the problems of people of Kapurthala.

Deepti also served as Deputy Commissioner in Jammu Kashmir

This is her second posting as Deputy Commissioner as before her transfer to Punjab cadre, she had been Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri in Jammu Kashmir. Her first posting in Punjab was as ADC (G) at Kapurthala.  Deepti Uppal was transferred to Punjab cadre in October 2015, initially, she was allocated Jammu and Kashmir cadre.

Deepti Uppal had shown characteristics of a good administrator 

Deepti Uppal has shown characteristics of a good administrator, while serving on different posts. She has served as CEO of Smart City Amritsar along with charge as Chief Administrator of Amritsar Development Authority.  During her tenure at Amritsar, she has handled various development projects. Formation of smart city and project formulation of many important works like LED Street lights, Wi-Fi of heritage walk, improvement of parks etc were taken up during her CEO posting.

As a Chief administrator of Amritsar Development Authority, She had played a key role in developing Batala Urban Estate and Guru Ramdass Urban Estate Amritsar.

Became center of attention as ADC (G)

Deepti Uppal received lot of public notice and attention during her 25 day small stint as officiating DC of Kapurthala in 2017. During this period, she has supervised the procurement of wheat crop in an exceptional way. Showing her managerial skills, she herself kept a close eye on the procurement process and monitored it on daily basis, which resulted in accelerating the buying and lifting of the crop from the mandis. No complaints were received from the stake holders; it was a hassle free procurement.

During this period, she also monitored the progress of almost all the ongoing projects in the rural and urban areas and visited all the project spots and pointed out the deficiencies to the implementing agencies.

After taking over as DC, Deepti Uppal said “Public grievance redressal in a time bound manner and improving public service delivery in social service sector will be given top priority”. She further said “Monitoring & proper execution of the development works going on will be done regularly to fast track them”.
