New initiatives of DC Isha Kalia

Hoshiarpur, 20 January 2020: Always in the news for her pro-people approach, DC Isha Kalia initiates few more ventures for the welfare of the public. Her new initiatives are centred on providing chemical and fertilizer free vegetable to the citizens besides providing a much needed marketing platform to the farmers who grow organic vegetables. It is a first kind of effort by the district administration to help the farmers in marketing of the organic foods under the banner of “Safe Food” Mandi.

Features of Safe Food Mandi

Every Sunday from 10 am to 1.00 pm organic certified farmers and farmers involved in natural farming shall sell their produce / products to residents of the city. The products include daily use items, such as Vegetables, Jaggery (Gud), Tofu, Soya products, Haldi, Pulses, Atta and Vermi compost. All these products made available in the safe food mandi will be free from chemical pesticides and fertilizers.

It’s a farmer centric effort which will serve a good purpose to help organic farmer. So far 52 organic farmers, who are certified as organic farmers by Punjab Agro Export Corporation have joined this venture and 10 stalls have been established in Roshan ground.

Isha Kalia told APS Brar “It’s an effort to provide hygienic food to the citizens at a reasonable rate and it will also boost up organic farming which is need of the hour”. After analysing the Safe Food Mandi performance in city, we will start it at sub divisional level also, she said.

Administration gets installed RVM machine for collection of Pet waste

Aiming to put an end plastic bottle menace, DC Isha Kalia got installed a RVM. A Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) is an automated recycling machine that allows consumers to directly dispose, used empty PET bottles in the machine, which is then taken into eco-friendly and organized recycled chain.

“We are trying to address the issue of ever increasing plastic waste by getting installed RVM through reliance in the city, there is an incentive for every bottle thrown, and discount is to be given to residents at eating points and grocery shops. It will tackle the issue of environmental degradation” added Isha Kalia.

DC sets up steel utensils bank for people at Red Cross

With an aim to dissuade people from using disposable plastic products, DC Isha Kalia introduces the idea of establishing a steel utensil bank at the Red Cross complex. An all new steel utensil bank has been created at Red Cross where people can take utensils free of cost for functions at their homes with a refundable security deposit.

Free driving classes for college girls under BBBP

In a remarkable initiative free driving classes for college going girls have been started in the city to take forward the agenda of women empowerment.

E-Rickshaw scheme for women

E-Rickshaw scheme has been started for women in the district to make them self-reliance. Unemployed widows, Divyang women, Divorced women, daughters of ex-servicemen and grand- daughters of freedom fighters are given priority under this scheme. DC Isha Kalia herself conducted the interviews to choose the beneficiaries women under the scheme.
