Punjab’s First Honey Processing Cluster to start soon in Bathinda

Tungwali (Bathinda) 2 August : The Rs 3.5 crores project of Honey Processing Cluster will soon become a perfect platform for a large number of unemployed youth not only to get training in production and sale of honey but it will also boost the income of farmers who are already into the business of selling honey.
Stating this today Deputy Commissioner B.Srinivasan said that the district administration is providing all possible help to the village society so that the center may start its functioning at the earliest.
As per Gurcharan Mann-chairman of the society which is setting up this project an amount of Rs 88 lakhs were received for the construction of the building from where the Honey Cluster Center would be operated in the village.
He said that the most time consuming part of this project was the construction of building which has to be done as per the design and layout provided by the government.
He said that the fourth stage of the building has been completed and a letter in connection with the completion of this stage has been received from the District Industries Center-Bathinda on June-10.
He said that this center would become a unique project where not only honey would be collected and prepared for the packing and sale but it will also be equipped with machines to make everything required for beekeeping.
Sharing the details of the project he said that the proposed interventions in the center would include honey processing unit (filtration machine) which costs roughly around Rs 25 lakhs, honey packing machine including capping, wrapping and labeling, automatic plastic moulding machine (honey packing jar), automatic bee wax sheet making machine, automatic drone wax sheet making, automatic PET machine (bucket macking), wooden bee box automatic machine, wooden frame making automatic machine, royal jelly extractor and drier machine, bee accessories making machine including –tool, queen, cage queen gate, pollen trape, smoker etc, bee venom extractor machine, automatic bottle washer and drier machine, pollen drier and packing machine, card board packing machines, lamination machine, die punching machine, cutting machine, stitching machine and case making machine. “The cost of these machines varies between Rs 8 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs,” Mann said.
He said that this project was accorded approval on December 20, 2016 after which the foundation stone of the building, in one acre area, was done by the then Deputy Commissioner of Bathinda-Praneet Bhardwaj.
Officials of the Horticulture Department Bathinda also paid a visit at the under construction building of the center on Monday and got firsthand information about the ongoing work. Deputy Director of Horticulture Department Darshan Pal and Horticulture Development Officer Reena Rani said that Bathinda is excelling in the production of honey as compared to all the other districts of Punjab.
They said that their department is encouraging farmers to opt for beekeeping for which they are providing subsidy, free training and help for the farmers having little or no landholding.
